Lead instructor Duncan Lawley started training in JKD / Kali in 2003 and achieved his Black Belt in 2007, then his first instructorship in 2009. Since then he has also been certified as an instructor under Guro Terry Barnett (since 2016), Guro Rick Faye (since 2017), Guro Daniel Lonero (since 2019) and Guro Dan Inosanto (since 2019) in Jeet Kune Do, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Kali, Panantukan, Silat, Grappling and associated arts.

Duncan has been training in the martial arts since his teens, which started in Lau Gar Kung Fu, later in Shotokan Karate with a long family history of the martial arts and archery.

Since 2019, he trains the weekly online XTMA partner and solo classes which have provided a wealth of knoweldge and experience under Guro Daniel Lonero.

Since 2022, he is proud to be a regular private student of Guro Aaron Davis (MKG UK/European Director) and trains weekly at MKG Southampton, sharpening personal skills and teaching methods.

Since 2023, he has been studying Pekiti Tirsia Kali (PTTA) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) under Mark Tucker (C360 / MKG Liskeard).

richard cogger

Instructor Richard Cogger started training in martial arts aged 15 with Okinawan Karate and the moved onto Lau Gar Kung Fu. He started Jeet Kune Do and Kali in 1999 With Sensei/Sifu Mike Grey where he earned his apprentice instructorship.

In 2009 he became a private student of the great Brendan Westwood and after a year and a half of training with Brendan was able to earn his associate level instructorship in MKG under Guro Rick Faye.

From 2010 to 2015 he was fortunate to train in Kick boxing with Master Steve Graham of Grahams Academy where he was awarded his Kick Boxing Black Belt.

2011 saw Richard start to train in Jeet Kune Do, Kali, Panantukan, Silat and associated arts at Jason Boh’s School of Martial Arts where he earned his SMA instructor credentials. It was also during this time he was fortunate to meet Sifu Duncan Lawley and become his assistant at what would later be known as ATOM Martial arts.

Richard is also a regular private student of Guro Aaron Davis (MKG UK/European Director). and since 2023 he has been studying Pekiti Tersia Kali under Mark Tucker.

mikala aquilina

Instructor Mikala started training martial arts when she was 8 years old in Judo. After a couple of years she moved onto Shotokan karate under Sensei Shiro Asano, Richard Langdown and Spike Milligan.

She received her 1st Dan and entered many competitions, winning the national championships for team kata and kumite along with many other wonderful trophies in gold and silver.

Later she moved over to Taekwondo (green belt) under Master Mark Spain and dabbled in wing chun alongside for a few months. After having her oldest daughter she trained in Capoeira for 8 years under Mestre Adelmo Lima and Professora Beatriz Viana Rosa.

In 2013, once her youngest daughter was about 3, she began studying Jeet Kune Do, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Kali, Panantukan, CSW, Thai Boxing. This journey continues at ATOM as a regular student and instructor.

Since 2017, she's also been training at Kamon BJJ under Kevin Chan 4th Dan who is under Mauricio Gomes and Roger Gracie. In 2026 she was awarded her Purple belt.

Matt's martial arts journey started in 1994, when attended his first Taekwon-Do (TKD) class. He never looked back, and three and a half years later in 1997 he became one of the first black belts in Vision TKD under Master Philip Lear. In February 2000, Matt was fortunate enough to attend a seminar taught by Grandmaster General Choi Hong Hi, the founder of TKD. He achieved 2nd degree black belt in 2003, and then 3rd degree in 2005. Then in 2008 Matt achieved  4th degree black belt under renowned Master (now Grandmaster) Orello Ellis. Matt was a qualified International Instructor in the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), and attended multiple seminars taught by the ITF Technical Committee. He was also an international A-class umpire, and refereed at multiple European and World Championships, and taught umpiring courses around the country. In 2012, Matt moved to Hampshire and took over the Vantage TKD club in Fareham, where he was Chief Instructor for three years.

Matt first encountered the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) in 2008, when he attended a seminar on Tactical Edge, an FMA-based self-defence system, taught by the Tactical Edge founder Master Mark Davies. Matt continued with Tactical Edge, and in 2014 achieved the rank of Full Instructor, after a two-year instructor program, including training in numerous weaponry systems, such as stick, knife, tomahawk, flexible weapons and improvised weapons.

The move to Hampshire in 2012 was when he first encountered Jeet Kune Do (JKD), at Jason Boh's School of Martial Arts (SMA). And in 2015 Matt quit TKD permanently, handing his club over to another instructor, and switched his focus to JKD-Kali. He rose up the ranks and achieved brown belt under Sensei Boh in 2017, and was an instructor at SMA for two years, where he taught classes in JKD, Kali and Panantukan. He also studied CSW and BJJ while at SMA, and achieved one stripe on his BJJ white belt under Professor Dave Birkett. In 2022 he joined Atom Martial Arts under Sifu Duncan Lawley and in 2025 was awarded his black belt. Matt has attended numerous seminars taught by world-class instructors, including Dan Inosanto, Rick Faye, Bob Breen, Phil Norman and Danial Lonero. Thanks to the growth potential offered by Sifu Duncan, Matt is now on the MKG Instructor program under Guro Rick Faye and starting his journey in Pekiti Tirsia under Mark Tucker.

katie lundbech

Katie has a lifelong background in movement, fitness and martial arts, bringing a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the ATOM instructor team. Her diverse sporting background gives her a strong understanding of body mechanics, balance, coordination and athletic movement, providing an excellent foundation for teaching martial arts.

Katie began training in gymnastics at the age of five before moving into competitive dance at six, continuing until the age of twenty-two. Alongside dance she continued gymnastics to develop her acrobatic skills, achieving Premier Championship level across multiple disciplines and becoming a Regional Champion in Rock and Roll dancing. Around the age of eight she also trained in Karate, further broadening her early martial arts experience.

Katie began training in Taekwon-Do in 2006, earning her Black Belt in 2015. During this time she competed at both regional and national level, achieving a Silver Medal at the National Championships. She has also maintained her fitness through circuit training, running and completing a half marathon.

After first studying Filipino Kali and striking arts in 2020, Katie joined ATOM Martial Arts in 2024, where she has trained consistently ever since. As one of Lead Instructor Duncan Lawley's regular private students, she has developed her skills across Jeet Kune Do concepts, Filipino Kali, Panantukan, Silat and practical self-defence.

Katie regularly attends MKG seminars under Rick Faye and has been recognised as an Associate Instructor within the Minnesota Kali Group. She is also continuing her Filipino Martial Arts journey by studying Pekiti Tirsia under Mark Tucker.

Friendly, approachable and dedicated to continual learning, Katie is passionate about helping students build confidence, develop practical martial arts skills and enjoy their training in a supportive environment.

peter inguanez

Peter began his martial arts journey at the age of 18, training in a variety of disciplines including Karate and Muay Thai, where he developed a strong foundation in striking, fitness, discipline, and self-defence.

At the age of 35, he joined BMMA, training for two years under Greg Allison, a BMMA Black Belt Instructor, former Royal Marine Commando, and former Metropolitan Police Protection Officer. During this time, Peter progressed to the rank of Blue Belt, further developing his martial arts knowledge and practical skills.

At 38 years old, Peter discovered his passion for Jeet Kune Do, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Kali, Panantukan, Silat, Grappling, and the associated arts. This journey led him to ATOM Martial Arts, where he found not only the martial arts system he had been searching for, but also a martial arts family. Under the guidance of Sifu Duncan Lawley, Peter continues to develop his skills and understanding of the arts while embracing the philosophy of continuous learning and personal growth.

Alongside martial arts, Peter also developed a keen interest in archery, taking up the sport to further challenge himself and develop additional skills in focus, patience, discipline, and precision.

Outside of martial arts, Peter is dedicated to supporting young people within the Scouting community. He has served as a 1-to-1 support volunteer for his son's Cub Pack and SEN Scout Group, helping young people with additional needs participate fully in Scouting activities. He is also an active Cub Leader and a Trustee for an SEN Scout Group, demonstrating his commitment to inclusion, personal development, and community service.

Peter is currently undertaking the MKG Instructor Development Programme, further developing his coaching and teaching skills within the MKG and ATOM Martial Arts systems. He is passionate about helping students build confidence, develop practical skills, and enjoy their own martial arts journey.
